Song facts

Looking For You” is a song recorded during the sessions of the 1997 album “Flaming Pie“, and released as a B-side of the single “Young Boy“.

Mark Lewisohn, in Club Sandwich n°82, Summer 1997:

The day after Ringo Starr had joined Paul to record ‘Beautiful Night’ the pair returned to the studio, where the instruments remained set up as before, and began a good old-fashioned jam session, Paul plucking his Hofner Violin bass, Ringo beating the drums and Jeff Lynne playing guitar. Three separate pieces evolved inside half an hour, one being ‘Looking For You‘ (issued on the B-side of first UK single ‘Young Boy’ and first US single ‘The World Tonight’), another ‘Really Love You’.

Looking For You” was included in the 2020 reissue of “Flaming Pie” but was not remastered.

Lyrics

I thought I saw your shadow in an old doorway
But when I looked again I thought I made a big mistake,

It was someone else, who looked a little like you,
But now I know, ah ha ha, ain't no one like you.
I'll tell you why I know, babe,

Hey, 'cause I'm looking for you, looking for you,
Yeah, I'm looking for you,
That's all I do, that's all,
I'm looking for you, looking for you,
Yeah, I'm looking for you, that's right.
That's all I do, yeah-yeah.

I've been to many places around the world,
I've studied many faces of every little boy and girl.

But I'm looking for you, I'm looking for you,
Just looking for you.
Baby, I'm looking for you, I'm looking for you,
Look, look, looking for you.

Hey nah nah nah, let me tell you, baby,

The earth ain't flat,
I finally made the decision, and that is that.
And now I know, there's only one place to be,
You know where that place is,
Yeah, for you to be with me.

Babe, I'm looking for you, looking for you, I'm looking for you
I'm looking for you
I'm looking for you, looking for you,
Yeah, I'm looking for you

Tell me, I'm looking for you, through and through,
Only looking for you
Baby, I'm looking for you, baby be true
'cause I'm goin' looking for you

I'm looking for you
I'm looking for you
Looking for you

I'm looking for, I'm looking for, I'm looking for
I'm looking for, I'm looking for, I'm goin' looking for you

I'm looking for, I'm looking for, I'm looking for
I'm looking for, I'm looking for, I'm looking for you

I'm looking for, I'm looking for, I'm looking for
I'm looking for, I'm looking for, I'm goin' looking for you

I'm looking for you
I'm looking for you
I'm looking for you.
