From Lot Detail – Paul McCartney Twice-Signed Early 1958 Original Artwork with Early Handwritten Working Lyrics for Beatles “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” (Caiazzo) (gottahaverockandroll.com) – Offered here is a one-of-a-kind Paul McCartney piece of memorabilia. This full spread, double-sided drawing made in McCartney’s distinguished and delicate penmanship features a hotel beach illustration. Complete with tan couples, families, and comical beach bums, this humorous work does what McCartney made a career out of: making you smile. The work is dated 1958, and on the back side features early working lyrics to McCartney’s iconic song “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da”. McCartney has also signed the back three times with his extremely early signature “JP McCartney” standing for James Paul McCartney. McCartney writes, “Da Da (Lyric Writer), Dum Di, Da Da, Da Da” which would be the earliest known working handwritten lyrics for any Beatles song. McCartney also writes three poems titled “Dear Sir” and “Oops! So Sorry”. The back also features self-portraits done by McCartney. All in all, this grail is as good as it gets in terms of McCartney memorabilia, and will take the breath away from even the most seasoned Beatles collector.
