What happened for Paul in 2014

In January, to celebrate the Beatles’ 50th anniversary of their first trip to America, the Beatles U.S. albums (with different setlists and covers than their UK counterparts) were reissued in a boxset (later during the year, another boxset called “The Japan Box” would be released as well).

But for Paul McCartney, 2014 really kicked off in February at the Grammy Awards. He received 4 different Grammys Awards (2 for his “Live Kisses” live album, 1 for his collaboration with ex-Nirvana members on “Cut Me Some Slack” and 1 with The Beatles) and reunited with Ringo Starr for a show, titled “The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to The Beatles“, to, again, celebrate the Beatles’ 50th anniversary of their first performance on The Ed Sullivan Show. During this time spent in Los Angeles, he also found time to spend with Kanye West. The results of this collaboration would be released in 2015.

In April, Paul McCartney was back on the road with his “Out There” tour, for a leg in South America. In May, he had been bedridden by an unspecified virus on doctor’s orders and had to cancel a sold-out concert tour of Japan scheduled to begin later in the week. The tour would have included a stop at the famed Budokan Hall. McCartney also had to push his June US dates to October, as part of his doctor’s order to take it easy to make a full recovery. However, he resumed the tour with a high-energy three-hour appearance in Albany, New York, on 5 July 2014. On 14 August 2014, McCartney performed the final concert at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, before its demolition. It was at the same venue that the Beatles played their final concert in 1966.

In September, the video game “Destiny” was released. McCartney collaborated on its soundtrack, which includes a new song “Hope For The Future“, released as a single in December.

In October, the 2013 album “New” was reissued in a collector’s edition, containing some outtakes and live versions.

In November, Wings’ albums “Venus And Mars” and “At The Speed Of Sound” were reissued as part of the Archive Collection.
