About

Paul McCartney’s daughter, Stella, ending her Fashion Design studies at Central Saint Martins, presented her graduation collection on this day. Her collection was modelled for free by friends and supermodels Naomi Campbell, Yasmin Le Bon and Kate Moss, at the graduation runway show, presented to a song especially written by her father, “Stella May Day“.

From the New York Times, June 14, 1995:

KATE MOSS traveled from New York and NAOMI CAMPBELL from Berlin to sashay down a London runway wearing designs by STELLA McCARTNEY on Monday. What’s more, the two supermodels, who normally get up to $10,000 a day, did not charge a fee for the show.

So who, one might wonder, is Stella McCartney? She is the 23-year-old daughter of PAUL McCARTNEY and a member of this year’s graduating class at the Central St. Martin’s School of Art in London.

According to reports in London newspapers yesterday, Ms. McCartney had eight designs in a show that was part of Graduate Fashion Week. New design school graduates are given a chance to show their work to people in the fashion industry.

Mr. McCartney, who composed a rock song called “Stella May Day” to accompany the show, and his wife, Linda, were on hand to cheer their daughter on.

“I am the proudest dad in the world,” he said after the show. “I thought that it was brilliant, and Stella has come such a long way since she first started out.”

Ms. Campbell said she and the other models had agreed to do the show as a favor for their friend, Ms. McCartney. “It just goes to show we support each other,” she said.
