Angus McBean was a British photographer best known for his innovative and theatrical portrait work, particularly during the mid-20th century. Born in 1904 in Wales, he gained prominence in the 1930s through his surrealist-inspired portraits of stage actors and celebrities. McBean became a favourite among West End theatre circles and later expanded his work to include album covers, most famously photographing The Beatles for their 1963 debut LP “Please Please Me” and its 1969 recreation.
