From the “New World Tour” tour book, remembering the 1989/90 tour:
I love places like Chicago and Pittsburgh in America or Newcastle in England, industrial towns like Liverpool. I trust the people, if that’s the right word. I relate to them anyway. I feel they’re like me. They’re not, of course. But I feel they are, so it’s true for me.

The first time in on that tour, though, our drummer then, Chris Whitten, wasn’t well. Poor old Chris had come off a push bike in LA and, being a drummer, to try to avoid hitting his hands he took it on his head instead. He got a bad bang. Wix was having tour collywobbles too.
