About

From Chris Whitten (@chriswhittenmusic) • Instagram photos and videos – After 11 shows in North America, at the beginning of March 1990 we flew into Tokyo, Japan for 6 shows. This was the culmination of months of difficult negotiations, as almost exactly ten years earlier (Jan 1980) Paul had been arrested at Tokyo’s Narita Airport for possession of Marjuana. Paul spent nine days in detention, facing a seven year prison sentence. The McCartney family and organisation were seriously planning to move the whole operation to Tokyo for the period of the sentence. In the end the whole McCartney entourage was deported from Japan, usually meaning you are unwelcome to return. Anyway, we were back! Pictured backstage at the Dome is Mike Walley, Paul’s travel logistics expert, an extremely nice chap and for whom nothing was a problem. Paul hired an official photographer for every leg of the tour. We had just said goodbye to @billbernstein for a while and on arriving in Tokyo said Kon’nichiwa to photographer Shoichiro Kataoka. #touringlife #japan #tokyo #mikewalley #paulmccartney
