About

From RollingStone:

Paul McCartney visited Late Night With Jimmy Fallon yesterday, where he performed a pair of songs from his upcoming album New and a Beatles classic, claimed to have invented the selfie and, in a taped bit, accidentally switched accents with Fallon.

The performances started with “Save Us,” a fast-paced rocker with prismatic vocal harmonies and a brief, taut guitar break. McCartney switched from bass to piano for “New,” the jaunty upbeat first single from the album. McCartney stayed at the keyboard for the Beatles’ “Lady Madonna,” banging out the rollicking uptempo riff while the band bopped along behind him, with help from a selection of the Roots, who appeared when the camera panned right.

Before performing, McCartney graciously looked at a handful of classic photos with Fallon, claiming to have pioneered both selfies and photo-bombing, and also talked about New. The album is due out on October 15th, and features songs produced by Ethan Johns, Mark Ronson, Giles Martin and Paul Epworth. “I was a little bit worried that you’d have so many different styles, but then I thought back to a lot of Beatle albums where there’s crazy variety, and I thought, ‘Well, that’s OK,'” McCartney said.
