PAUL McCARTNEY RETURN TO SAN DIEGO ADDED TO ‘OUT THERE’ TOUR
SEPTEMBER 28 – PETCO PARK
SAN DIEGO

Paul has added another date to summer’s hottest ticket: the ‘Out There’ world tour has confirmed a September 28 stop at Petco Park in San Diego – marking Paul’s first concert in the city since the ‘Wings over America’ tour passed through in 1976.

From U-T San Diego:

When Paul McCartney opened his first San Diego concert in 38 years with The Beatles’ chart-topping 1964 classic “Eight Days a Week,” the audience at Petco Park on Sunday night responded with a roar almost loud enough to match the height of Beatlemania half a century ago.

The enthusiasm of the multigenerational crowd of 42,000 was perfectly understandable. McCartney’s last public concert here was a 1976 show at the San Diego Sports Arena, six years after the Fab Four had imploded. Sunday, on a night when the temperature had dipped to 68 degrees by the time the 8 p.m. concert began, about 30 minutes behind schedule, the glow of warmth provided by his music was more than matched by that of his celebratory audience.

But McCartney, who is 72-going-on-just-17, was quick to demonstrate he’s no mere nostalgia act. Accordingly, his second song, “Save Us,” was a mid-tempo rocker from his fine 2013 album, “New.” (A complete concert review will be posted Monday afternoon on U-T San Diego’s website.)

After that number, McCartney briefly addressed the audience. “Thank you,” he said, “Hey San Diego. Woo hoo! Go Chargers.” […]

San Diego, you made quite a big noise last night at #petcopark Great to be #OutThere with you. Thanks!
