But just like in past years, no keynote speakers garnered as much attention as the surprise music acts. This year, it was someone truly special to Baron himself, who admitted that he played the artist’s music at his own wedding. Legendary singer and songwriter Paul McCartney instantly fired up the audience in the opera house when he appeared. “I love you Paul!” One investor jumped up from her seat and screamed the moment McCartney appeared.

McCartney joins the rank of high-profile artists who have performed at the Baron Investment Conference. Last year Barbra Streisand headlined. Others who have performed include Harry Connick Jr., Celine Dion, Sting, James Taylor, Diana Ross, John Cougar Mellencamp, Sheryl Crow, Faith Hill, Lionel Richie, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder and Elton John.

When McCartney played the song “Hey Jude”, one of his last songs of the day, nearly all of the 4000-member audience stood up and sang out loud (with McCartney conducting). One attendee said quietly after the show:”That was something quite special, wasn’t it?”

Indeed, even Baron himself thinks so. He told the attendees that it was seeing a live concert in Madison Square Garden that convinced him to move to New York many years ago.

It was reported that Sir Paul McCartney was paid more than $1 million to perform at this event.
