On this day, Marianne Faithfull recorded a cover version of Paul McCartney’s song “Yesterday“. Paul attended the session and met with producer and arranger Mike Leander.
Marianne’s recording charted in the UK, but was outsold by the competing version released by Matt Monro.
On November 1, Marianne Faithfull took part in the recording of the television special The Music Of Lennon and McCartney. During the programme, Paul began singing “Yesterday“, with Marianne taking over the lead vocal after a few seconds.
The connection with Mike Leander would later resurface in March 1967, when Paul asked him to arrange the score for “She’s Leaving Home“, as George Martin was unavailable at the time.
