About

Wings had recorded “Give Ireland Back To The Irish” three days earlier, on February 1, 1972, and mixed it on February 3 with engineer Glyn Johns.

On this day, Paul McCartney (joined by other Wings members) was back at Apple Studios, at 3 Savile Row; surely the first time since the break-up of The Beatles in April 1970.

It’s unclear what was exactly achieved on this day. Denny Laine explained that they were there to mix “Give Ireland Back To The Irish“, but that was also the purpose of the session at Island Studios the day before – was it about completing the work, or mixing the instrumental version released as the B-side of the single, or…?

We went into the Apple Studios to mix ‘Give Ireland Back To The Irish’ and [Paul] looked around those studios and he must have been thinking, ‘Blimey, I helped build all this.’ He must feel bad that he can’t go on being involved.
