About

From Lot 3102 – THE WHIPPETS (WINGS) – PROUD (omegaauctions.co.uk):

THE WHIPPETS (WINGS) – PROUD MOTHER/TOMORROW – EMI STUDIOS 7″ ACETATE RECORDING. An incredible piece of Wings history with this double-sided EMI 7″ acetate recording of Proud Mother and Tomorrow, this copy kindly consigned my Geoff Britton. The acetate contains printed EMI Studios labels with the artist, title and track timings handwritten stating ‘Proud Mother (Long Version) and ‘Tomorrow’. The acetate is in clean VG+ condition showing a couple of light surface marks though absolutely nothing heavier in nature.

Geoff Britton’s two-sided acetate was recorded in EMI Studio 2 by engineer Geoff Emerick on September 22, 1974. For reasons unknown, Wings chose to record under the moniker the Whippets that day.

‘Proud Mother’ was composed by Paul McCartney as a jingle for the bread makers Mother’s Pride, but never used. Geoff Britton’s acetate contains the long version of the bread jingle.

’Tomorrow’ was recorded during the same session. Originally recorded for Wings’ first studio album Wild Life in 1971, the version of ’Tomorrow’ recorded in 1974 is instrumental and features synth and horns in place of Paul’s vocal line. Both acetates were likely pressed in EMI’s lacquer room on September 23, 1974, this one was handed to Geoff by McCartney himself.
