The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)
Written by Mel Torme, Bob Wells
Recording • It is possible but uncertain that this song was recorded during that session
About
According to some sources, Paul McCartney was in New York in September 2012 to work with Diana Krall (likely at Avatar Studios). They may have recorded new versions of “It’s For You” (the McCartney song given away to Cilla Black in the 60s) and “Tomorrow” (the 1971 Wings track from “Wild Life“), as well as two unknown original songs.
Paul McCartney previously worked with Diana Krall in 2011, for his album of old standards “Kisses On The Bottom“. It is unclear what the motivation could have been for those sessions – a possible follow-up to this album?
It is also possible that the cover of “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)” had also been recorded or completed during that session. Indeed, it is reported that Paul McCartney, during a diner with friends and family in London on September 7, 2012, made them listen to his recording of “The Christmas Song“, corroborating the idea it was completed early September.
