In October 1991, Paul McCartney gave a collection of 25 demos to be considered for his next album (to become “Off The Ground“) to producer Julian Mendelsohn. “In Liverpool” was one of those demos, which was shelved and remained unreleased.

In 2008, Paul played this song at The Liverpool Sound concert held at Anfield stadium in Liverpool, to celebrate the city’s year as the European Capital of Culture.

4:46 • Studio version • This is from the 2 DVD set “Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio” released in 2004. The song ‘In Liverpool’ was part of the documentary “Echoes” which was on the second DVD along with another documentary titled “Ghosts Of The Past”. The ‘Liverpool Oratorio’ was largely based on the former Beatles’ childhood in Liverpool and was written in conjunction with conductor Carl Davis. Paul also played this song at The Liverpool Sound concert held at Anfield stadium in Liverpool on June 1, 2008 to celebrate the city’s year as the European Capital of Culture. The concert was headlined by Paul McCartney who was playing in his home city for the first time in five years. Paul played ‘In Liverpool’ – a song he had never played before and hasn’t played since.
