The Beatles’ third film project, following the success of “A Hard Day’s Night” and “Help!,” faced numerous challenges — chief among them, the search for a suitable script. Several proposals were explored, each offering a different creative direction, but none seemed to resonate with the band. In the end, the animated film “Yellow Submarine,” released in 1968, fulfilled The Beatles’ contractual obligation to deliver a third film to United Artists — even though “Let It Be,” released in 1970, is often mistakenly regarded as their third official film for the studio.
