On May 27, 1964, Paul McCartney, Jane Asher, Ringo Starr and Maureen Cox flew back to London from the Virgin Islands, ending a holiday of almost four weeks on the island of St Thomas. During the trip Paul had written Things We Said Today, which would be recorded in June and released as the B-side of the ‘A Hard Day’s Night‘ single in the UK and subsequently appear on the A Hard Day’s Night album. The group’s first world tour was now just one week away, beginning in Copenhagen on June 4, 1964.
