About

On this day, the company Adagrose Limited was registered and Paul McCartney was made director of it.

Following some discussions with Lee Eastman, his future father-in-law, and John Eastman, his future brother-in-law, Paul McCartney became interested in the music publishing business. Creating his standalone company would be the vehicle to start buying up the copyrights of other artists.

One could also link this creation with the fact Allen Klein had become The Beatles’ business manager on February 3; Paul may have anticipated how bad things would turn in the coming months.

In August 1969, Adagrose Limited would be renamed McCartney Productions Limited, and would later evolve into MPL Communications, one of the world’s largest privately-owned music publishers.
