Paul McCartney attends a book signing at Barnes & Noble bookstore in New York

Last updated on April 14, 2025

Timeline

Back in 2001 the NYC Barnes & Noble put an ad in the paper that Paul McCartney would be signing his book of poetry at their store on 5th Ave and 46th Street. My office was just 2 blocks away so I figured I would pass by before grabbing lunch. I was a bit surprised to see that a large crowd had gathered by the front entrance waiting for him to arrive. I stood there a few minutes thinking, this is crazy I have to get back to the office for a meeting, and I still hadn’t had lunch. Disappointed, I headed down 46th street which was relatively empty. Suddenly a limo pulls right in front of me, a door swings open and out comes Paul. We’re so close we actually bump into one other. We exchanged hello’s before he was ushered into the back door of the bookstore. Happy, I grabbed a burger (sorry Paul) and I got back in time for my meeting.

The Beatles Diary Volume 2: After The Break-Up 1970-2001

An updated edition of the best-seller. The story of what happened to the band members, their families and friends after the 1970 break-up is brought right up to date. A fascinating and meticulous piece of Beatles scholarship.
