In 1969, Apple artist Jackie Lomax recorded a cover of the Leiber & Stoller song “Thumbin’ a Ride.” Released in the United States as the B-side to his single “New Day,” the track featured Paul McCartney on drums and also credited him as producer.

In February 1970, Lomax released another single in the United Kingdom, “How the Web Was Woven.” For this release, “Thumbin’ a Ride” was once again chosen as the B-side.
