Paul McCartney finds next single for Jackie Lomax
JACKIE LOMAX, the Liverpool singer discovered and recorded by Beatle George Harrison, has his second single out next month—courtesy of Paul McCartney.
Title is “Thumbin’ A Ride,” a traditional rock number originally recorded by the Coasters, of “Yakety-Yak” fame, several years ago. Paul found the song on the B-Side of a Coasters single in his personal collection.
Said Apple press man Derek Taylor: “Paul told George about the song and asked if he could show it to Jackie. They all liked it and Paul said he’d like to record Jackie with it. George agreed.”
Paul took the session last Tuesday night (March 11)—the eve of his wedding to Linda Eastman. And he was in the studio again on his wedding night, putting the finishing touches to the track.
He is featured playing drums on the completed record, and American star Billy Preston helped out with piano/organ backing. Also at the session were Manfred’s Klaus Voormann, the Rascals, and George Harrison and wife, Pattie.
“Thumbin’ A Ride” will be out on the Beatles’ Apple in mid-April.
Jackie Lomax is to be managed by Justin De Villeneuve, manager of Twiggy, and Olivia “Juliet” Hussey, who took some fabulous photos of Jackie and really believes in him as a star,” says Apple.
Paul McCartney flew to America on Monday to see his mother-in-law! [sic – father-in-law] He left with his new wife Linda, and daughter Heather, to spend two weeks with the Eastmans.
And also on Monday, John Lennon and Yoko Ono flew to France for a few days of business meetings in Europe in connection with their next LP, reported to be about life in hospital.
