About

From Wikipedia:

Heather Louise McCartney (born Heather Louise See; December 31, 1962) is an American-British potter and artist who is the daughter of Linda McCartney and adopted daughter of Paul McCartney.

Biography

McCartney was born in Tucson, Arizona, to Linda Eastman (later McCartney) and Joseph Melville See, Jr. (April 19, 1938– March 19, 2000), an American geologist. Her parents separated after eighteen months of marriage, with her mother marrying Paul McCartney in 1969 when Heather was six years old. During this time Heather was formally adopted by McCartney, also making an appearance in the Beatles film Let It Be. A half-sister, Mary, was born in 1969, followed by another half-sister, Stella, in 1971 and a half-brother, James, in 1977. Although Heather has said that her biological father had a lifelong influence on her, she considers Paul McCartney to be her father.

McCartney began showing an interest in art, taking up printing at the Photographers’ Workshop in Covent Garden and winning the Young Black and White Printer of the Year Award for a photo she called “Waterfall”. She later went on to art college, where she focused on pottery and design. McCartney was hospitalized briefly in her twenties for treatment of an emotional disorder and traveled to Mexico a few years after being released, where she lived among natives of the Huichol and Tarahumara tribes. McCartney later moved to Arizona to live with her biological father and eventually returned to England to work as a potter.

In line with the beliefs of her parents and half-siblings, she is a vegetarian and is passionate about animal rights.

In 1999 McCartney launched a line of houseware products called the Heather McCartney Houseware Collection.

Raised largely by Paul (alongside Linda of course), she has of late become something of a star within the Peter Jackson Get Back doc. We’d seen her in Let It Be, of course, but the additional footage gives us so much more: John trolling her over eating kittens – her take on Yoko – and just in general, how easily and warmly she was adapted into the Beatles’ extended family; a privilege not seen with Julian or Ringo’s kids to that point.

Linda met and subsequently married her 1st husband, geologist/anthropologist Joseph Melville See, while attending college classes in Tucson, Arizona, during the time she was grieving the loss of her mother, Louise, in a plane crash (https://tinyurl.com/3536mk8u). They conceived Heather but ultimately went their separate ways; while he was away on a trip to Africa, Linda, longing for something better, divorced See and moved back east. (Here’s a tabloid account of his life as an adventurer, which ended in suicide in 2000: https://tinyurl.com/4hm9kcmm )

The McCartney family grew quickly during the 70s and Heather, as eldest, was around to help care for her younger siblings. Apart from being photographed in and around Wings projects during their run, Heather kept a relatively low profile by McCartney standards. Though she dated Billy Idol briefly during the early 80s, she tends not to turn up at red carpet events.

She apparently inherited traits from both blood parents: creativity (manifesting itself in the study of art and pursuing a career as a potter) and an interest in cultures other than her own. (A trip to Mexico during Linda’s lifetime where she lived among indigenous peoples in Mexico was described as “life-changing” for Heather.) She has never married nor had children, and lives on Paul’s Sussex estate in a cottage of her own, preferring to be known (if at all) for her line of pottery.
