Brian Epstein announces The Beatles’ plans for 1965

Last updated on May 20, 2026

Brian Epstein held a press conference in London to announce The Beatles’ plans for 1965. These included a European tour in July, at the centre of which would be a live TV broadcast from Paris, seen all over Europe (although not in Britain). Also on the agenda was an American tour in August, which was set to include at least one concert in Mexico. Epstein also confirmed that The Beatles hoped to begin work on a third feature film project before the end of 1965.

Beatles Find U.S. Very Taxing

LONDON — A spokesman for the Beatles last week confirmed that the group could not consider any more visits to the United States due to a tax dispute with the American government.

British newspapers reported that during their tour of the U.S. and Canada the quartet had earned $2.8 million, but that the money earned in the United States was being blocked off by treasury officials. The spokesman added that negotiations are now going on with the American government about these earnings.

Beatles to tour America again

THE Beatles will tour America again during the summer. This was revealed to the NME by Brian Epstein before he left for New York on Tuesday morning. He said he was going to negotiate a schedule of U.S. concert dates — which would definitely include a return appearance at the famed Hollywood Bowl — for the Beatles.

Epstein said he would also be discussing the visa situation which is keeping many British groups from America. “I don’t think this will pose any great problem for the Beatles,” he added.

The Beatles undertook their first American tour last summer. It began on August 19, and lasted more than a month.

In America, John Lennon and Paul McCartney have been named the top songwriters of 1964 by Broadcast Music Inc. They won ten awards each.

The B.M.I. Citations are presented annually in the field of pop music and are based on the popularity poll, record and sheet music sales, radio, television and juke-box plays in the U.S.

The NME understands that Northern Songs, the firm which publishes John and Paul compositions, will become a public company soon. Directors include the two Beatles, Brian Epstein and Dick James.

● The Beatles’ latest American LP “Beatles ’65” has sold almost 3,000,000 copies in the month since it was released, cables Nat Hentoff. It is expected to become their biggest seller.

BEATLES FOR U.S. – Epstein flies out to fix summer tour

THE BEATLES will be visiting America for a short tour during the summer!

This news broke as Nems impresario Brian Epstein left for the States on Tuesday. He will discuss the boys’ next visit while there and set dates and details.

It will be the third trip for The Beatles across the Atlantic and their second tour there. A Nems spokesman told DISC WEEKLY that the schedule would be much smaller than the first. While in America Brian Epstein will also finalise arrangements for Cilla Black’s promotional visit there in April.

BEATLES 1965 PLANS – European and U.S. tours; maybe two films

THE BEATLES’ 1965 plans were revealed by Brian Epstein on Wednesday: after completing their next film in May the group will undertake a short European tour in July. This is prior to their second American tour in the latter half of August which begins in New York and ends with appearances at the Hollywood Bowl. The Beatles will probably make a third film in the autumn — in which case their next British tour would be postponed until spring 1966.

Production of the Beatles’ second film will begin in the Bahamas where John, Paul, George and Ringo fly on February 22. On March 13, the whole film unit will move to Austria for a week to 10 days. It is hoped to finish the film on May 12.

The group’s European tour in July will begin with an appearance in Paris and a television show in the French capital which will probably be screened all over Europe. After another date in the South of France they fly to Spain for concerts in Barcelona and Madrid and on to Italy where they will play Milan and one other city.

The Beatles will leave London for America on August 13. The following day they will telerecord before an audience a slot for the premiere programme of Ed Sullivan’s new series on September 19.

On August 15, they play to their biggest audience ever at an open-air venue in New York with a capacity of more than 50,000. The tour, which will include Mexico City, will terminate with two shows at Hollywood Bowl on August 29 and 30.

Epstein adds: “It is possible that the Beatles will start work on a third film in the late autumn. This would exclude the possibility of a British tour at that time — in which case they will play their next schedule of home one-nighters in the early spring of next year.

No more Beatles until 1966?

THE BEATLES have probably made their last British tour for over a year. They fly out for their third American visit on August 13, and their shows start two days later.

Meanwhile, the Beatles head out to the Bahamas on February 22, where they start shooting their second film. Later they visit Austria. The film should be completed by May 12.

France, Spain and Italy are among countries the Beatles plan to visit during a short European tour in July.

The American tour will take in nine states and will earn them more than £300,000.

Tentative concerts are planned for the Shea Stadium, New York City; Hollywood Bowl; Atlanta, Georgia; Cow Palace, San Francisco; Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto; Convention Hall, Minneapolis; Houston, Texas; and either Chicago or Detroit. One other date is still to be set.

The Beatles may also tape a TV spectacular in Hollywood.

The tour ends with a date in a Mexico City bullfight arena.
