1965 • For The Beatles • Directed by Richard Lester
On Saturday, 24 April 1965, the production of Help! moved away from Twickenham Film Studios for the first time, taking the Beatles on location to the City Barge public house in Strand-on-the-Green, Chiswick, a small hamlet in West London. This ambitious day of location filming captured the sequence preceding Ringo’s entrapment in a cellar with a man-eating tiger, with the band walking down the narrow Post Office Alley and emerging onto the Thames towpath before encountering marauding thugs disguised as bagpipe players. The sequence culminated with the Beatles diving through the pub’s glass window frontage to escape the danger, while additional studio and exterior material was filmed without them afterward.
If we modestly consider the Paul McCartney Project to be the premier online resource for all things Paul McCartney, it is undeniable that The Beatles Bible stands as the definitive online site dedicated to the Beatles. While there is some overlap in content between the two sites, they differ significantly in their approach.
