In May 1970, a press report in Disc And Music Echo indicated that Paul McCartney was invited to participate in a three-day festival in Cornwall during the summer of 1970. It is not known whether Paul ever sent a formal reply to the festival organiser. Had he accepted, it would have marked his first concert as a solo artist. In the end, it would not be until the spring of 1972, with the Wings University Tour, that Paul would return to the stage.
McCartney sought for festival
PAUL McCARTNEY, Simon and Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and Jefferson Airplane — that’s the incredible line-up sought for a three-day festival in Cornwall this summer.
And behind the plan are Bud Fillipo Promotions, organisers of America’s famous Woodstock festival. Officials are expected in London this week to open negotiations. Also being approached are Grateful Dead, Joe Cocker and Ike and Tina Turner.
The festival will be held on the 6,000-acre estate of the Earl of St Germans, nine miles west of Plymouth, on July 16/17/18.
It would be Paul McCartney’s debut as a solo Beatle.
Said Lord Elliott, 29-year-old son of the Earl: “We hope to have 150,000–200,000 people as a minimum. And the St Germans railway station is 2000 yards from the festival site. I don’t know the line-up. That’s up to the promoters. I’m just providing the site.”

Maccazine - Volume 40, Issue 3 - RAM Part 1 - Timeline
This very special RAM special is the first in a series. This is a Timeline for 1970 – 1971 when McCartney started writing and planning RAM in the summer of 1970 and ending with the release of the first Wings album WILD LIFE in December 1971. [...] One thing I noted when exploring the material inside the deluxe RAM remaster is that the book contains many mistakes. A couple of dates are completely inaccurate and the story is far from complete. For this reason, I started to compile a Timeline for the 1970/1971 period filling the gaps and correcting the mistakes. The result is this Maccazine special. As the Timeline was way too long for one special, we decided to do a double issue (issue 3, 2012 and issue 1, 2013).
