GEORGE MARTIN, who came to fame as producer of the Beatles, has been named as musical director for the Sergeant Pepper film.

Martin, who produced the original “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” album, will be responsible for the film’s soundtrack LP, which will also feature music from the Beatles’ “Abbey Road.” The soundtrack will be a double-album.

Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees have already been cast for roles in the movie, which will be filmed in Holland this summer.

Martin also produced the “Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl” live album which is in the shops this week.
