About

On September 16, 2018, a music video for “Back In Brazil” was released on Youtube. From RollingStone:

A Paul McCartney concert saves a couple’s relationship in the singer’s new video for “Back in Brazil.”

The clip, which follows the song’s loose narrative, opens with a free-spirited Brazilian woman walking on a beach, dancing with street performers and strolling through her city. At one point, she sparks a conversation with a stranger and invites him to an upcoming McCartney concert.

The man agrees to attend but is forced to work late, leaving her alone at the show. The protagonist holds up a sign for McCartney, and the former Beatle calls her onstage to dance around during a song. The man arrives to the venue after the set to apologize, but the overjoyed woman hugs him and says, “No, no. There’s no need to say sorry. I met Paul McCartney!” […]

On September 10, 2020, a “behind the scenes” video was released on Youtube, explaining the writing process for “Back In Brazil” and how the music video got filmed:

I was in Sao Paulo and I had a day off. And I was just in the hotel room on my own. And I just got this feeling “it would be great to write a song”. I’m in Brazil, I’m feeling the spirit, looking out at Sao Paulo, high above the city, thinking about all the resilient people who are out there. And the way the Brazilians love music. So I just got this little vibe going, put the chords to it. And then the song came, you know, this little story about a girl “back in Brazil”. It almost wrote itself.

We had a couple of days off. And I knew we were going to go to Salvador. So I said to Charlie, “it’d be great while we’re in Brazil, to shoot some footage”. I thought in Brazil, you’re going to be able to find a beautiful girl. And then there’s a boy in that story. how’s that gonna work? Is it going to be good chemistry between them? And there is this beautiful town to shoot it into, quite different from Sao Paulo, with the colored buildings and everything. So the filming was great.

Paul played me a rough version of the track. I was excited to shoot something while we were there. We found the girl and the guy. And the chemistry was amazing between the two. Then I had the idea of that she could end up with a gig and it’d be great if she came up on stage and dance with him. I tried to shoot as much as real as possible in regard to put her in the role. And I tried to shoot it more like a documentary sort of style. And what was interesting was that, even though she was acting and she was in that part, after she was on stage with Paul dancing and she came offstage, you could really see the effect that it had on her, the emotional facts… It really touched her, it was quite overwhelming, I think, in front of that many people, to be on stage dancing with Paul. And it was a great experience to shoot there and I’m just really glad how it all turned out. And Salvador, the location was brilliant. The people so great, they’re really accommodating. It really shows off Brazil, a really beautiful place to shoot.
