FANS of Sir Paul McCartney have forked out £800 to see the Beatles legend perform an exclusive soundcheck show at Hampden Stadium tomorrow night.

One hundred fans snapped up the special hospitality Hot Sound packages, offering the pass to the pre-show soundcheck. The tickets include a three course meal, drinks, as well as the official show, the use of a VIP suite and collectable goodies. The sold-out gig will see Macca perform a laid-back set lasting over an hour.

Macca, 67, said:

“It started off when we were checking our sound but we got bored of that so started playing songs we didn’t normally do. Now we have a few of them. We’ve built our repertoire. We’ve got proper songs like Penny Lane, that we haven’t got in our show, in our soundcheck list.

“It’s like a mini concert. What’s nice about it is the rule that if we have to soundcheck, the people who come to the soundcheck have got to understand that.

“Normally it’s a bit of a show like this because we can breeze through it. But sometimes there is a problem.

“We have to say, ‘OK, folks, now we are really soundchecking’ and we do it. They actually like it because the mic or guitar has gone and adds a bit of drama to it.”

He added:

“To start with, it was just a few local promoters who came, then Barry, our promoter, suggested selling a special ticket for the show for anyone who wants more of an experience.

“They come to the catering and eat what we eat, which is often the best restaurant in town. They’re really good caterers.

“That’s because we were going to cater veggie for the whole tour and the crew and people said, ‘Oh God. The crew aren’t going to like that.’ So we said to the caterer, ‘It’s got to be the best food ever.’ We don’t want people to go, ‘We’re forced to eat that veggie rubbish.’ So the people who come to the soundcheck check are looked after specially.”
