“Man on the Run (Music from the Motion Picture Soundtrack)” is a soundtrack and compilation album by Paul McCartney, drawing mostly on recordings made with his post-Beatles band Wings. It includes three previously unreleased recordings: the first official release of “Gotta Sing Gotta Dance“, from the James Paul McCartney television special, a rough mix of “Arrow Through Me” and the live rendition of “Live And Let Die” from the “Rockshow” documentary.
The album was released on February 27, 2026, and accompanies the documentary “Man on the Run,” which focuses on Paul’s life and career during the 1970s.
In a review for Spill Magazine, Aaron Badgley wrote that:
The little treasures in between the huge hits gives the listener a glimpse into McCartney’s diverse musical tastes and his ability to not only follow his muse but succeed in whatever he wanted to accomplish. […] It is impossible to squeeze the entire decade into 45 minutes, and of course, some may question omissions. But rather than focus on what is not here, focus on the stunning, creative, and brilliant music that is available. [Man on the Run – Music from the Motion Picture Soundtrack] is perfection.
I attended a screening of MAN ON THE RUN last night at Loyola University in New Orleans. Scott Rodger, Paul’s long-time manager and part-time New Orleans resident, was in attendance and did a brief Q&A after the film. Of course they talked about his personal recollections and feelings about working with Paul for so long now… […] Scott Rodger said he chose the tracklist for the MotR soundtrack because “they” (I don’t know if he meant Amazon, or Paul or what) wanted a single LP soundtrack of music featured in the film, and knowing they just did a big WINGS comp, Scott tried to pick some stuff that wasn’t on WINGS but still gave a good overview of Paul’s music. 8 of the soundtrack’s 12 songs are NOT on WINGS. So in that regard, Scott did well. There’s a live version of Jet featured in MotR that could have been on the soundtrack but wasn’t (I’m not well versed enough to know if it was from Wings Over Europe, or America, or completely unreleased before). But this sort of explains why there isn’t any other unreleased material on the soundtrack (because there isn’t much of that in the film unfortunately!), and the previously unreleased/rare inclusions on the soundtrack are ones that are prominently featured in the doc for sure. The soundtrack tracklist also runs through the film as is btw. So it’s a true soundtrack — The film starts with the Silly Love Songs demo…
