About
This was the last Beatles session of the year and a session without any Beatle and without George Martin.
In this session lasting from 10 am to 1 pm, engineer Geoff Emerick and second engineer Graham Kirkby created the stereo mixes of four songs for the “Yellow Submarine” soundtrack album.
“Only A Northern Song” was mixed in mono on April 21, 1967. To come up with this mono version, the engineers had the challenging task of combining two different takes by manually syncing the two four-track tapes. On this day, they didn’t want to go through this complex task again and opted to create a mock stereo mix.
