Jeff Bryant was born in Bristol in 1946. He took up the horn at the age of sixteen and soon joined the National Youth Orchestra. He went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music under Ivor James. His first professional position, at the age of twenty, was as principal horn of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, followed by principal positions with the London Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestras. He joined the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1975 and was principal horn for 22 years. He has appeared regularly as a soloist with all these orchestras. His recorded solo repertoire includes the Mozart Concertanti, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Britten Serenade for Tenor and Horn with Vladamir Ashkenazy and Tippett Sonata for Four Horns with the Michael Thompson Quartet.

He has been a professor at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama since 1973. He is the horn tutor for the European Union Youth Orchestra and Senior Brass tutor at Trinity College of Music.
