Ron Griffiths (born October 2, 1946, in Swansea, Wales) is a Welsh musician best known as the bass guitarist for The Iveys, the group that later became Badfinger. Griffiths joined The Iveys in 1965, alongside Pete Ham, Mike Gibbins and Tom Evans. Together, they became one of the first bands signed to The Beatles’ Apple label.
During his time with The Iveys, Griffiths contributed bass, backing vocals, and occasional lead vocals. He was part of the group when they recorded “Maybe Tomorrow,” their first album, and when Paul McCartney offered them the song “Come and Get It” for the soundtrack of The Magic Christian. Griffiths performed on the recording of “Come and Get It,” which became a major hit in early 1970.
Shortly after the band’s name was changed to Badfinger, Ron Griffiths left the group. He was replaced by Joey Molland as Badfinger moved into their most commercially successful period. After his departure, Griffiths largely withdrew from the professional music scene but remained respected for his role in the early formation of one of Apple Records’ most successful acts.
