To promote the upcoming release of the 2022 reissue of “Revolver”, Apple Corps released the first official video for George Harrison’s track “Taxman“.

The track was recorded across three Studio Two sessions in April and May, 1966. One of three songs on the album by George, in “Taxman” he expresses his frustration with the UK’s ‘super-rich’ tax rate at the time (90%), with a vocal wink to the “Batman” TV theme song.

This is the latest in a series of Beatles-related animated videos Danny has made over the last couple of years, often at the request of George Harrison’s family. And this one is pretty special for him, as he was given the complete trust of the Beatles’ team and the freedom to try out new ideas. You can see the amount of work he’s put into creating something he’s proud of. ‘Taxman’ was written by George Harrison, with a little help from John Lennon, after being told that the individual Beatles were facing bankruptcy due to extremely high taxation.
I was asked to create a music video for The Beatles track ‘Taxman’. As Beatles fan and Revolver being my favourite Beatles album, it was an ideal project. There’s a finite amount of Beatles material. Rather than take away from it, I chose to add to it. My approach was influenced by Yellow Submarine mixed with comics and Saturday morning cartoon shows.
