About
In the US, Capitol Records was preparing a new Beatles album to be released under the title “Yesterday And Today” in June 1966. In keeping with the record company’s policy for all the Beatles’ North American LPs until 1967, Capitol Records selected songs by culling from the albums the band released in Britain and from tracks issued on non-album singles outside North America. For this album, they selected:
- From the album “Help!”, the tracks “Yesterday” and “Act Naturally“
- From the album “Rubber Soul“, “Nowhere Man” and “What Goes On“
- Both sides of the double A-side single “Day Tripper” / “We Can Work It Out“
- From the not-yet-released album “Revolver“, the tracks “I’m Only Sleeping“, “Doctor Robert” and “And Your Bird Can Sing“.
On this day, from 1:45 pm to 3:30 pm, “I’m Only Sleeping“, “Doctor Robert” and “And Your Bird Can Sing” were mixed in mono to serve Capitol’s purpose. Those mixes were unique for this US release as those tracks would later be remixed for inclusion on “Revolver“.
