Song facts
“Miss Ann” is a song from Little Richard’s debut album, Here’s Little Richard, released on March 1957.
From SongFact:
- Some of Little Richard’s songs are based on real experiences, and this one is about a woman named Ann Johnson. Along with her husband Enotris Johnson, Ann, who was a white woman from Macon Georgia, took in Little Richard after he was kicked out of his house for what Richard once claimed was because of his homosexuality. The Johnson’s ran the Tick Tock Club, where Richard first performed.
- Enotris Johnson got a writing credit on this song, which was released as the B-side of the single “Jenny, Jenny.” Johnson is also credited on that one, as well as Richard’s classic “Long Tall Sally.”
Paul McCartney and the Beatles were fans of Little Richard, playing and recording several of his songs. They played “Miss Ann” live during their 1960-1961 gigs; they then recorded it during the January 1969 “Get Back” sessions. Paul McCartney also sang “Miss Ann” through various soundchecks – a recording from February 5th 1993 exists on bootlegs; and the song was still performed at times during 2016 & 2017 soundchecks.

Lyrics
Oh, oh, oh, Miss Ann, you're doin' something no-one can
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Miss Ann, you're doin' something no one can
Because believin' and deceivin', it's drivin' me to grievin' now
I want to hear, hear, hear Miss Ann, I want to hear her call my name
I want to hear, hear, hear Miss Ann, I want to hear her call my name
Because she keep callin' loud, but she calls it so sweet and so plain
Well, I told Miss Ann once, and I told Miss Ann twice
Yes, I told miss Ann once, and I told Miss Ann twice
Boys, when I'm with Miss Ann, I'm livin' in paradise
If she thinks I'm gonna let her be free, how wrong can Miss Ann be
If she thinks I'm gonna let her be free, how wrong can Miss Ann be
I'm in love with Miss Ann, and that's the way it's gonna be
