About
Although the recording of the “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” album was unfinished, Paul decided to take a ten-day break in the United States to surprise his girlfriend Jane Asher on her 21st birthday. At the time, Jane was touring the US with the Old Vic Company and performing Romeo And Juliet.
On April 3, 1967, Paul and Mal Evans departed London and spent the following day in San Francisco. On April 5, they travelled to Denver to meet Jane. In the evening, a birthday party was organised by the Old Vic Company in her honour. Jane’s mother, Margaret Asher, was also present.
Paul and Jane then spent the next few days on vacation in the Denver area.
WEDNESDAY APRIL 5:
Lear Jet from Frisco to Denver. 41,000 feet at 650 m.p.h. Met at Denver Airport by Mr. Bert Rosenthal who has lent Paul his house. I booked into Driftwood Motel to change and prepare for party. Went over to hotel where Jane’s 21st celebrations to be held tonight. Bert picked up Paul and Jane. Got them into hotel without too much trouble despite crowds outside. A lot of press people around — most of them managed to get in along with the cake! Including writer Vic Davies and photographer Harry Benson, both from New York office of the London Daily Express! Great party. Got on very well with all the Bristol Old Vic people.

Jane Asher plumps for marriage
ACTRESS Jane Asher takes a deep breath to blow out a candle on her twenty-first birthday cake. And as the party in Dallas’, Texas [sic], warmed up, she talked of marriage.
Jane, in Dallas to appear with the Bristol Old Vic, said she did NOT agree that marriage was old fashioned. She added: “I can see how some people would think so today, and I think it is only sensible to live together before marriage. But I would definitely want to get married. It’s just the custom. I wouldn’t like to work full time after marriage because I’d like to have children — but I’ll always want to act.”
Had her friendship with Beatle Paul McCartney helped her career? Jane said: “I don’t feel that the publicity has helped. It has made me known, but I resent the loss of privacy.”

Actress Jane Asher Has 21st Birthday
DENVER, colo., April 6 (AP) — Shakespearean actress Jane Asher and Beatle Paul McCartney, sweethearts far from their native England, joined last night in celebrating her 21st birthday.
About 30 members of the Bristol Old Vic Company, in Denver for a three-day performance, gathered for the affair in a restaurant near Colorado’s capitol. McCartney flew to Denver earlier last night to join the celebration.
The traditional cake was about six inches high and ringed with 21 candles for Miss Asher, who is known to most American movie goers as the teen-age waif picked up at a truck stop cafe by Michael Caine in “Alfie.”

Beatle Paul McCartney, Sweetheart Reunited
DENVER, Colo. (AP) — Paul McCartney, of the Beatles, flew to Denver Wednesday night and attended the 21st birthday party for his sweetheart, actress Jane Asher. She is in Denver for a three-day appearance beginning Thursday with the Bristol Old Vic Shakespearean troupe.
Miss Asher and McCartney walked arm and arm into a private room where other members of the Old Vic cast had assembled for the celebration.
Newsmen were barred from the room at a restaurant, across the street from Colorado’s Capitol.

If we like to think, in all modesty, that the Paul McCartney Project is the best online ressource for everything Paul McCartney, The Beatles Bible is for sure the definitive online site focused on the Beatles. There are obviously some overlap in terms of content between the two sites, but also some major differences in terms of approach.
