On this day, the promotional video for George Harrison’s “Something” premiered on the BBC’s Top of the Pops in the UK.
The video featured individual clips of each Beatle walking around the grounds of their homes alongside their respective wives. Paul McCartney had filmed his segment at his Scottish farm, where he had been staying with Linda for about a month. However, he failed to send the footage to Neil Aspinall in time for the broadcast. As a result, Neil substituted it with existing material — using scenes of Paul from the “Fool On The Hill” sequence in Magical Mystery Tour, and of Linda from the “Get Back” sessions.
From Wikipedia:
The promotional film for “Something” was shot in late October 1969, not long after Lennon privately announced that he was leaving the band. By this time, the band members had grown apart. As a result, the film consisted of separate clips, edited together, featuring the Beatles walking around the grounds of their homes with their respective wives. Harrison’s segment shows him and Boyd together in the garden at Kinfauns; in author John Winn’s description, Harrison appears “solemn” while Boyd is seen “smiling sweetly” and “sporting leather and fur coats”. Winn also comments on the attractiveness of all the wives in contrast to the unkempt appearance of McCartney, especially, who had sunk into depression at the realisation that the Beatles were over. The four segments were edited and compiled into a single film clip by Neil Aspinall.
Having made the film, Paul failed to get it to Aspinall in time for the clip’s first airing, on the November 13 edition of Top of the Pops. Aspinall improvised, using footage of Paul from the ‘Fool on the Hill’ sequence in Magical Mystery Tour, and film of Linda shot during the Get Back sessions. Shortly after their return to London, Paul sent the film to Aspinall, who edited in the new Paul and Linda sequences for subsequent screenings.

Solid State: The Story of "Abbey Road" and the End of the Beatles
Acclaimed Beatles historian Kenneth Womack offers the most definitive account yet of the writing, recording, mixing, and reception of Abbey Road. In February 1969, the Beatles began working on what became their final album together. Abbey Road introduced a number of new techniques and technologies to the Beatles' sound, and included "Come Together," "Something," and "Here Comes the Sun," which all emerged as classics.
