Paul McCartney was among 400 figures from the UK’s creative industry — including Elton John, Kate Bush, Coldplay, and Dua Lipa — who signed an open letter supporting a push to require AI companies to disclose the copyrighted works used to train their models.
The letter backed an amendment to the UK’s Data (Use and Access) Bill, introduced by Beeban Kidron, which sought to add this transparency requirement. The UK government had expressed opposition to the proposal.
On May 13, the House of Lords approved the amendment by a vote of 272 to 125. But the bill had to return to the House of Commons, where the amendment could still be overturned.
