About this 12″ single:
We couldn’t leave out ‘Seaside Woman’ by Linda (alias Suzy and the Red Stripes), produced by Paul and issued on 12″ three years after reaching no. 38 in the US charts. Several voices (all Linda?) add atmosphere to her own ditty of seashore life, set to a great lurching reggae back-up. Recorded several years before the Tom Tom Club’s 1980 hits, it captures the same sun-kissed mood. ‘B-Side To Seaside’ is just as rustic and enjoyable. Bizarrely enough, Oscar Grillo’s red-striped ladies on the cover (from his award-winning Seaside Woman cartoon) were deemed not busty enough by A&M Records, who discreetly-er-boosted them in the right area. Oscar was not amused.
