On November 23, 1965, The Beatles gathered at Twickenham Film Studios (Stage Three) to film a series of promo films – later known collectively as the “Intertel promos” (named after Intertel, the video production service used). Five songs were taped that day: their new double-A side single “We Can Work It Out” / “Day Tripper“, as well as earlier 1965 hits “I Feel Fine“, “Ticket to Ride” and “Help!“.
For the promo film for “Help!“, the four Beatles are gathered around a long workbench as if engaged in a DIY project. John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison hold their guitars, while Ringo Starr holds a white umbrella. As the song progresses, artificial snowflakes begin to fall onto the set, eventually dusting the Beatles in “snow” by the final chorus.
This promo film was shown on the special 1965 year-end edition of the BBC’s “Top Of The Pops“, on December 25, 1965.
It was released on the 2015 “1+” DVD/Blu-Ray compilation.
