About

Hello, Goodbye” was initially recorded on October 2 and October 19, with the addition of some violas on October 20. On October 25, some tape reductions of Take 16 were made to free up a track for Paul McCartney to record his bass part. However, Paul was unsatisfied with the result and decided to re-record his bass part. On November 1, additional tape reductions of Take 16 were made, numbered Takes 22 to 25.

On this day, from 2:30 pm to 6 pm, The Beatles completed the recording and mono mixing of “Hello, Goodbye“. Paul re-recorded his bass part onto Take 22 before work on the mono mix began.

The viola overdubs were recorded separately onto a distinct tape, named Take 17. This meant that the mixing process required two four-track machines to run in sync, one running Take 22 and the other one running Take 17. Using this technique, Remix Mono 1 to 6 were created, with RM6 ultimately deemed the best and used as the mono release of the song.

Hello, Goodbye” was mixed in stereo on November 6, 1967.
