Road” is a track from Paul McCartney’s 2013 album “NEW“. It was co-written by Paul and producer Paul Epworth, one of the four producers who worked on the album. It is the final song on the standard edition of “NEW”.

On the standard edition, “Scared” — a “secret” track not listed in the album’s track listing — is included on the same track as “Road”, following a short silence.

I guess with that one we were aiming for something that was a little more esoteric and musically complex than the others I’d worked on. It’s like a journey. That actually started out with me on drums and him on Moog and it sounded like something by The Fall or Can.

Lyrics

We came from nowhere

Hiding from a storm

We cling together

To keep each other warm

The road to somewhere

Stretches through the night

We follow blindly

Heading for the light

I can’t see anymore

The blinding light

It’s just a metaphor

I use when things aren’t going right

We held each other

Praying for a spark

Two crazy partners

Scrambling in the dark

Now where are we going

Searching in the night

We had a feeling

It’s going to be alright

I can’t see anymore

The blinding light

It’s just a metaphor

I use when things aren’t going right

Two crazy partners

Searching in the night

We’ve got a feeling

It’s going to be alright

We follow blindly

Heading for the light

We’ve got a feeling

It’s gonna be, it’s gonna be alright

We came from nowhere

Hiding from a storm

We cling together

To keep each other warm

The road to somewhere

Stretches through the night

We follow blindly

Heading for the light

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, oh

Heading for the light

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, oh

Hello. I was looking at the running time of this song on streaming services. The standard edition states that the song is 7 minutes and 39 seconds long however, the deluxe edition states that the song is 4 minutes and 36 seconds. Could the standard edition have a hidden track in it?

Hi, sorry for the late answer. "Scared" is the hidden track added to "Road".

Would it be worth noting on this page that "Scared" is included on this track (as well as on "Get Me Out of Here" on the Deluxe Edition) to avoid confusion for people looking for more info? I came looking for "Scared" today but I didn't know the title and felt a bit lost.

Honestly, it didn't take me more than a few seconds to figure out, but I just wondered if it it might be helpful to include a link to "Scared" on the pages for both "Road" and "Get Me Out Of Here" noting that it appears as a hidden track on each album version of these songs.

Thanks Peter. Good advice, I've updated the pages for "Road" and "Get Me Out of Here", as per your suggestion. Thanks
