On this day, The Beatles, their manager Brian Epstein and their producer George Martin visited EMI’s headquarters at Manchester Square, London. Company chairman Sir Joseph Lockwood presented them with gold discs in recognition of sales exceeding 3,000,000 records in Japan, along with traditional Kokeshi dolls from northern Japan. The group also received a number of awards from all around the world.
In the afternoon, The Beatles returned to EMI Studios for their second day of recording sessions for “Help!“


The Beatles Snare More Trophies
LONDON—The Beatles recently took time out from their hectic schedule of concerts, p.a.’s etc. to stop by the studios of EMI for a special presentation. EMI board chairman Sir Joseph Lockwood presented the group specially-made dolls on behalf of the record salesmen of Japan as a token of appreciation. Sir Joseph had already presented them with a gold disk from Toshiba Musical Industries of Japan for achieving sales of over three million records in Japan plus countless other awards from all over the world.
