In late October 1969, Paul McCartney received a cablegram signed by Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis and drummer Tony Williams:
PAUL MCCARTNEY. APPLE RECORDS. 3 SAVILE ROW LONDON / ENGLAND
WE ARE RECORDING AN LP TOGETHER THIS WEEKEND IN NEWYORK STOP HOW ABOUT COMING IN TO PLAY BASS STOP CALL ALAN DOUGLAS 212-5812212
PEACE JIMI HENDRIX MILES DAVIS TONY WILLIAMS
The invitation, sent via producer Alan Douglas, proposed a spontaneous recording session in New York. However, Paul was unavailable. On October 22 — the same day the “Paul is dead” rumour broke internationally — Paul, Linda, and their two daughters travelled to Scotland to spend time at his farm near Campbeltown.
In response to the cablegram, Apple manager Peter Brown replied:
Ref. cable received from Hendrix Davies and Williams.
Paul McCartney away from London on holiday not expected to return for two weeks.

The session never took place. According to UNCUT, as of 2013, the telegram was on display in Hard Rock Cafe in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Hard Rock historian Jeff Nolan told The Telegraph: “Major Hendrix connoisseurs are aware of the telegram. It would have been one of the most insane supergroups.”
