Italians take top San Remo honors

SAN REMO, Italy (Reuters) — Italians Bobby Solo and Iva Zanicchi won the 19th San Remo song festival here Saturday with a rendition of Zingara (Gypsy).

Second place went to Beatles’ protégé Mary Hopkin, who ranked high on international hit parades with Those Were the Days. She sang a nostalgic ballad Lontano Dagli Occhi (Far From Sight) together with last year’s festival winner Sergio Endrigo.

Americans Wilson Pickett and Stevie Wonder were among the other 11 finalists.
