“On the Wings of a Nightingale” is a song written and composed by Paul McCartney and recorded by the Everly Brothers in 1984 for their album EB 84, which Dave Edmunds produced. […]
The video shot to accompany the selection shows the brothers rescuing a classic car (specifically, a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible) from a junkyard, restoring it (in a series of shots that compress an unknown number of weeks, or months, into 35 seconds of video time) to drivable condition, then taking it out for a spin.
“On the Wings of a Nightingale” is the most popular of the duo’s songs recorded since 1970 and the final Everly Brothers single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. […]
McCartney’s own version still exists, strictly as a demonstration recording; it remains unreleased as of 2020.
Remember Dave Edmunds’ rocking guitar work on ‘Not Such A Bad Boy’ and ‘No Values’? Well, at the time of recording he was due to produce the Everly Brothers’ comeback album and persuaded Paul to write ‘On The Wings Of A Nightingale’ for them. The result? The brothers’ first hit in almost 20 years…
From Club Sandwich N°36, 1985
When I love, I get a feeling
Like I'm traveling through the sky
On the wings of a nightingale
As I ride my head is reeling
But I don't even wonder why
On the wings of a nightingale, I fly
High above, land and sea
I'll be thinking of you and me
Couldn't ask for a better place to be
Oh, I can feel something happening
Oh, I can feel something happening
Oh, I can feel something happening to me
So hold my hand
I've got a feeling that the journey has just begun
On the wings of a nightingale
And if you like, we'll fly together
To the land of eternal sun
On the wings of a nightingale of love
High above, land and sea
I'll be thinking of you and me
Couldn't ask for a better place to be
Oh, I can feel something happening
Oh, I can feel something happening
Oh, I can feel something happening to me
When I love, I get a feeling
Like I'm traveling through the sky
On the wings of a nightingale
On the wings of a nightingale
On the wings of a nightingale
On the wings of a nightingale

The stories behind the songs, demos and studio recordings, unreleased tracks, recording dates, musicians, live performances and tours, covers, events: Music Is Ideas Volume 1 traces McCartney's post-Beatles output from 1970 to 1989 in the form of 346 song sheets, filled with details of the recordings and stories behind the sessions. Accompanied by photos, and drawing on interviews and contemporary reviews, this reference book draws the portrait of a musical craftsman who has elevated popular song to an art-form.
