About
On this day, Paul McCartney and George Harrison attended a concert by the Four Tops at the Royal Albert Hall. That same night, an event called “A Million Volt Light & Sound Rave” took place where The Beatles’ experimental track, “Carnival Of Light“, was played.
The Four Tops were a vocal quartet from Detroit, Michigan, who rose to become one of the most successful American pop music groups of the 1960s. They played a pivotal role in propelling the Motown label to global fame. When they sought to establish themselves in the UK, they approached Brian Epstein, The Beatles’ manager, who arranged for them to perform at his London Saville Theatre in November 1966.
[Brian Epstein] told us that he had seen us perform, and if you give me your top performance, I’ll guarantee that when you come back, you’ll be front page news. We did do one of our best shows and he was so happy, he was almost crying. The audience was standing in the aisles calling for more and more and he said, ‘You guys did it!’
