“Paul McCartney and Wings” exhibition at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Last updated on May 22, 2026

From May 15, 2026, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame presented an exhibition dedicated to the story of Paul McCartney and Wings. The collection brought together a decade’s worth of memorabilia and archival materials from Paul, as well as items from other band members and close collaborators, offering a detailed look at Wings’ career throughout the 1970s.

The exhibition, announced on February 18, 2026, formed part of a broader reassessment of Wings’ legacy that had begun the previous year.

In November 2025, Paul McCartney released a new book co-authored with historian Ted Widmer, titled “Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run.” To coincide with its release, a new Wings compilation album, “WINGS,” was issued. The celebration continued in February 2026 with the release of the documentary “Man On The Run“, directed by Morgan Neville, on Amazon Prime Video, accompanied by a soundtrack album.

The Largest Collection Ever of Artifacts from Paul McCartney’s Personal Archive

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will open the doors to their exciting new exhibit “Paul McCartney and Wings.” This will be the first major museum exhibition to explore the story of Paul McCartney and Wings – a defining force in 1970s rock that bridged the gap between the end of The Beatles and the rise of a new era in popular music.

Comprised of the most extensive collection of items from McCartney’s personal archives to be made accessible to the public as well as donations from band members and associates, “Paul McCartney and Wings” will trace the arc of Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles reinvention – from his self-titled 1970 debut album through the formation of Wings to the band’s dissolution in 1981. The exhibition will feature numerous never-before-displayed artifacts, including instruments played in Wings’ recording sessions and in concert performances, clothing worn by the band, handwritten lyrics, original artwork, tour memorabilia, and previously unseen photography – presented within an immersive experience incorporating archival video, audio and images.  “Paul McCartney and Wings” is made possible, in part, by support from Raymond James.

Ex-Wings members Steve Holley and Laurence Juber were present at the opening party on May 16, and contributed a few words and played a few songs.. Denny Laine’s widow, Liz, was also present.

Last night, while we were all at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Paul was on SNL. During the VIP event at the official opening of the exhibit, Denny Seiwell called the Wings exhibit curator, Andy, to relay Paul’s best of luck wishes and sending love from NYC.

Heading home in the morning. Such a beautiful weekend at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But, bittersweet. It’s sad the two core founding members of Wings aren’t here to experience the legacy they created with Wings. Denny was so wonderfully remembered and honored in this exhibit, as MPL and the RRHOF both explained they wanted to do for my Denny.

I was in tears most of the weekend, (starting with the flight to Cleveland) which I just accept as the new me now. I can understand the depth of pain Paul must have experienced when he lost Linda to an illness, just as I lost Denny to an illness. Once you go through those months of sickness and caregiving until they leave this world, and then become a widow/widower, it changes you completely.

Seeing their pictures, hearing their voice and being bombarded with memories can be overwhelming at times. We love and miss you

From Exclusive | Paul McCartney’s prized guitars stuck in customs in London | Page Six, May 11, 2026:

Paul McCartney’s post Beatles exhibit at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has hit a road block. The museum’s upcoming exhibit “Paul McCartney and Wings” is opening on May 15, but we hear some of its artifacts are having issues getting to Cleveland.

Seven of McCartney’s guitars have been stuck in customs in London due to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). The famed string instruments are made out of Brazilian rosewood, which is one of the most rare and endangered trees on the planet.

They’ve been stuck in London customs for a month,” an insider told Page Six.

The tree is endangered so you can no longer use it, but it’s the best wood you can use for sound and acoustics,” they added.

The guitars are a part of McCartney’s personal archive. […] We’re told it’s the first time in decades that McCartney has traveled with the guitars internationally, so he may have been unaware his highly prized instruments would have an issue. However, a source says there has been some movement in getting the guitars through customs, so they may make it to the museum for the opening in four days.

As I dug deeper into the story of Wings in the ’70s, what gradually came into view for me was Linda’s role in all of it. Not just as Paul’s partner, but as a creative force in her own right. She was at the center of it all, and her influence on Wings is often underestimated. She supported Paul, anchored their family life, contributed to album artwork, and added to the band’s sound with her harmonies and keyboard playing. The camera is a symbol of that—not just her photography, but her overall presence within Wings.

One of the most meaningful details about the camera is Linda’s personal inscription—it’s engraved with “L. Mc.,” which underscores how photography was part of her identity.

In the exhibition, we’ve placed the camera on a kitchen table that recreates a scene from the McCartneys’ home on their farm in Scotland, surrounded by Linda’s photos of her family. It’s a domestic setting we can all relate to, and it highlights how intertwined the McCartneys’ personal and creative lives were.
