Some of the songs worked on during this session were first released on the "The Beatles (Mono)" LP.
Paul McCartney was not in the studio for that session, being in the USA for promotional duties for Apple. Ringo Starr was also absent.
“Revolution 1” had been worked on during the first recording days for the new album, on May 30, May 31 and June 4. On this day (from 2.30pm to 9pm), it was completed with the addition of two more overdubs. The first overdub was the addition of a brass section composed of two trumpets and four trombones. Then George Harrison added a lead guitar line.
From 10pm to 3.30am, John Lennon and George Harrison continued the work on “Revolution 9“, overdubbing the final sound effects.
The stereo mixes for “Revolution 1” and “Revolution 9” were then made. At this stage, “Revolution 1” took its final form, being trimmed down from 10 minutes 30 seconds to 4 minutes 15 seconds. The stereo mixes for “Revolution 1” done on this day would be dropped in favor of a new stereo mix done on June 25.

The fourth book of this critically acclaimed series, "The Beatles Recording Reference Manual: Volume 4: The Beatles through Yellow Submarine (1968 - early 1969)" captures The Beatles as they take the lessons of Sgt. Pepper forward with an ambitious double-album that is equally innovative and progressive. From the first take to the final remix, discover the making of the greatest recordings of all time. Through extensive, fully-documented research, these books fill an important gap left by all other Beatles books published to date and provide a unique view into the recordings of the world's most successful pop music act.
If we modestly consider the Paul McCartney Project to be the premier online resource for all things Paul McCartney, it is undeniable that The Beatles Bible stands as the definitive online site dedicated to the Beatles. While there is some overlap in content between the two sites, they differ significantly in their approach.
