The Songwriters Guild of Great Britain presented the 13th Ivor Novello Awards.
“She’s Leaving Home” received the inaugural award for “BEST BRITISH SONG, MUSICALLY AND LYRICALLY,” which is given to the songwriters rather than the performers, unless they are also credited as writers.
Paul McCartney was honoured with the “BEST INSTRUMENTAL THEME” for his work “Love In The Open Air” from the soundtrack of “The Family Way.”
TWO BEATLES GET MORE AWARDS
John Lennon and Paul McCartney of the Beatles have once again received Ivor Novello Awards for outstanding contributions to British popular and light music. They have won bronze statuettes as writers of the best British song, musically and lyrically, of 1967, “She’s Leaving Home”, and certificates as runners-up (with “Hello Goodbye”) for the “A” side for the 1967 record which received the highest certified British sales of 1967. Paul McCartney gets another statuette for the best instrumental theme with “Love in the Open Air”. Leslie Bricusse gets a special statuette for the film score of Doctor Dolittle.
